Institutional Overview

About the College of Veterinary Science

Established in November 1958, the College of Veterinary Science (COVS), Ludhiana has pioneered veterinary medicine in northern India. Founded originally under Punjab Agricultural University and subsequently transitioned into a primary constituent pillar of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in 2005, the college delivers academic rigor rooted in clinical reality.

The institution strictly adheres to the Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education (MSVE 2016) statutory regulations prescribed by the Veterinary Council of India. Its curriculum integrates clinical case rotation, dairy livestock herd health, mobile ambulatory clinics for progressive rural farmers, and advanced biotechnology investigations.

College History, Mandate & Growth expand_more

Initially founded to combat infectious rinderpest and boost bovine productivity during India's White Revolution, the college has transformed into an apex hub for high-end biomedical animal research, zoonoses mitigation, avian medicine, and companion animal surgery.

University Affiliation & Autonomous Governance expand_more

As the leading constituent unit of GADVASU, examinations, conferment of degrees, and academic governance operate under the statutory mandates of the State Legislative Assembly Act and ICAR Veterinary Sciences Division guidelines.

Accreditation, ICAR & VCI Compliance expand_more

Reaccredited with Grade A+ by NAAC and periodically vetted by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) inspection committee, all undergraduate (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) degrees qualify recipients for national clinical registration and international equivalence certifications.
